Knights of Columbus Council 5041 Mission Statement
The Knights of Columbus was chartered on March 29,1882 in the basement of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, CT by Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney. The purpose of the organization was to provide security for the widows and orphans of young Catholic men who suffered an untimely death.
As of 2019, there were nearly two million members around the world. The Order comprises four different "degrees", each one of which exemplifies one of the core principles of the order which are: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. There are more than sixteen thousand local Knights of Columbus councils around the world, including over three hundred on college campuses.
Local council, Fr. Pierre E. Boivin Council #5041, was chartered in October, 1960. It fell dormant in the 1970's and was reorganized in August 1980, by Fr. Donald J. Ravey. Membership has been fairly constant with approximately 80+ members since. The current Grand Knight is Mike Noonan of Morrisville and the Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Assembly is Terry Fox, also of Morrisville. Fr. Jon Schnobrich serves as our Chaplain, with Fr. Paul as Co-Chaplain. Mike Noonan is also currently Membership Director.
The council serves in the fields of Faith, Family, Community and Life and holds business meetings on the second Wednesday of each month in the council chamber located at the Msgr. Crosby Center.
Locally over the years we have donated money to food shelves, youth programs, new winter coats for kids, television and sound system for parish use, Special Olympics, annual Christmas tree lighting and family gathering, new characters for the parish creche, school supplies for kids and programs for homeless citizens to list a few. Fundraisers continue to be our primary source of revenue to carry out our mission, which includes pancake breakfasts and our annual Steak Dinner and Silent Auction.
